Business Structure & Operations – Volara Management

Introduction: Volara Management is an artist management company who manages Sabrina Carpenter, Marina, and Haim. The company launched in 2021 by the founder and CEO Janelle Lopez Genzink and has been gaining promising traction ever since. I selected this company because I have been watching the progress they have made in a short amount of time and the success their clients have had and I find it to be nothing short of extraordinary. This is a company I would be thrilled to work for one day and be happy to contribute my skills and knowledge to this team.

Organizational Structure & Environment: Volara has a small functional organizational structure which is very collaborative and artist driven between a strong team of women and the artists. Each member specializes in a different management aspect and they frequently work together to advance the artists careers. With Volara being as collaborative and artist-focused as they are, their decisions and strategies are formed by the team and the artists. The company emphasises empathy and inclusion, therefore they take their clients’ ideas, goals, and feelings into high consideration as the main part of their management strategy. With the company’s smaller size, they are able to offer and provide tailored strategies for each individual artist rather than a “cookie cutter” strategy. Their environment is very fast-moving, creative, and specific towards strategic artist development and engagement. Volara has also been able to partner with a larger company, Red Light Management, which allows them to broaden their resources while embracing their specialized and artist-driven autonomy.

Key Business Functions: Volara’s key business functions are management, artist career strategy & development, and marketing & promotion. The team includes Founder and CEO, Manager, Head of Marketing, Day-to-Day Manager, and Executive Assistant. The core of the company’s work is guiding artists to shape and grow their careers which includes long term planning for releases, branding, touring, and fan engagement. They also align their artists goals with marketing timing strategies. Volara’s marketing & promotion team works to design and execute marketing campaigns and manage artist imaging and messaging across all platforms. They collaborate with creative teams on album visuals, social media content, and any other promotional materials. The head of marketing will also use data insights such as fan demographics, streaming trends, and social metrics. By doing this, the company is able to increase visibility, grow their audience, and attract many industry opportunities all while making informed decisions about campaigns and partnerships. Their day-to-day manager is responsible for scheduling, travel logistics, promotional appearances, and any other routine communications. This allows for a smooth and responsive workflow.

Decision-Making Processes: The artist’s goals are the center of the decision making, therefore, Volara’s major career decisions are formed by active input from the artist and the management team. Decisions such as release timing, tour strategy, and partnerships are in-depth conversations between the artist, Volara managers, and any external partners such as record labels or agents. This process is crucial for assessing any risks, timing issues, and the impact these decisions make. While the artist’s visions and decisions are important, so is the creative direction in forming these processes.

Conclusion: In conclusion, Volara is a powerhouse management company that is hardworking, trustworthy, and creative. They have their finger on the pulse of the music industry and it shows in all of their artists and success over the past few years. They have steadily grown and continue to make strides towards massive success. The passion and dedication Volara has for each of their clients and team members is reputable and inspiring.
